Extra Credit Assignment

PetaPixel:

Purpose:

PetaPixel is a blog that works to share numerous different written articles varying in topic. The blog works on sharing the newest and most useful photography gadgets that can help any photographer improve their work. Along with offering new advice, the blog also offers writings on current events in the photography industry, as well as some humorous pieces. Something I also noticed was that PetaPixel offered a lot of random, but really interesting stories that aren't necessarily relevant to everyday life, but would be really interesting to read in any available free time. Such as the article I read today on how a man risked the life of a female model by hanging her off the side of a building just to get a "cool" picture. I would add this website to my bookmarks, however if I'm extremely busy and needing to learn lots of intense facts on how to use different gadgets and techniques, this is probably not the website I would click on. Although I did find a couple of articles that offered more serious information it did take bit of searching, and still isn't necessarily the most relevant. Having said that I would recommend reading this blog to anyone who has some extra time on there hands, and just can't their mind off photography.

Rating:

Overall, I would rate this website a 4.5/5 stars. I do think the website offered a lot of great input on lens and the newest gadgets. I also felt that the more humorous content was extremely interesting to read. Despite being purposely humorous, if actually given the time and thought I feel that you can really learn a lot of new information on how to take great photos. I also felt that the actual formatting of blog was really nice. I didn't find it difficult to find out how to access articles and didn't feel overwhelmed with information. The .5 was simply taken off because I felt that it lacked a bit of relevancy, however I can see how some photographers may argue differently.

Something New:

As I mentioned in my "Purpose" paragraph I read up on an article about a Russian model named Viktoria Odintsova  who willing risked her life for a photo. The model paired up with a daredevil photographer and hung off a 1,000ft skyscraper to capture an Instagram pic. I'm choosing to share this information because I think it gives a lot of insight on the crazy and ridiculous stuff this blog posts about. It also shows that true photographers, (or crazy Russian models), are willing to go to extreme extents to capture incredible photos and that can act as motivation for others to step outside of there comfort zones.
